With spring approaching and a successful vaccine roll-out , New York State is beginning to loosen COVID-19 restrictions for various industries and events.
The Governor announced earlier this week that starting in April, outdoor event spaces with a capacity of 2,500 or greater can operate at 20% capacity. For the Tarp Skunks, this new announcement means that as things stand now, 600 fans will be able to walk through the gate at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park to enjoy a summer evening baseball game once again.
“We’re optimistic with the way the vaccines are rolling out that by the time our season rolls around in June that the capacity restrictions could be lessened and we could have more like 700 or 800 fans potentially,” said Tarp Skunks Director of Business Operations, Jacob Kindberg. “So [we’re] certainly happy that we are set to have a season with fans, but hopeful for the potential that we could welcome even more people to enjoy some baseball this summer.”
The Tarp Skunks are still planning to enforce all required and recommended COVID-19 precautions to ensure fans are safe and feel comfortable.
Mask wearing and social distancing will be required inside the stadium and while waiting in line for tickets. The Tarp Skunks will ensure that fan seating is spread evenly throughout the stadium.
There will be hand sanitizing stations in designated areas. Bathrooms and high-traffic areas will be sanitized before each game and every inning during the game.
3 C’s catering will be handling all concessions at the stadium with advanced COVID-19 precautions to ensure proper cleanliness and the safety of all fans.
“Our number one priority going into this season is that we can host games with fans in attendance and do so safely in a way that everyone feels comfortable,” said Kindberg.
The Tarp Skunks home opener is June 10th at 7:00 pm against the Batavia Muckdogs. Head over to www.tarpskunks.com/single-game for ticket information.
